Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao on Friday created a sensation of sorts by alleging that there were several “Madhu Kodas” in the cabinet of chief minister K Rosaiah.
He told mediapersons that many of the ministers in the Rosaiah cabinet were blatantly corrupt. “Each of them is no way less than former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda in amassing wealth through illegal means. Just like the government is conducting raids on the corrupt officials and IAS officers, it should also order raids on the corrupt ministers and expose them,” he said, adding that he had submitted a representation to the Congress high command, demanding action against the corrupt ministers.
In the same breath, Rayapati also demanded that the Centre should not ignore senior party leaders like him who had rendered selfless service to the party. He said he had requested UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to provide him a berth in the cabinet. “That does not mean I will accept anything given to me. I don’t want any Minister of State or deputy minister post. I will not accept anything less than the Cabinet post,” he said. While several Congress leaders were furious over Rayapati’s remarks, the Telugu Desam Party leaders said there was a lot of truth in his observations that many of the ministers were corrupt. They demanded that action be taken against the corrupt ministers.
